A Brother's Love

This young boy was lying beside his new baby sister, and she was fussing and crying, which made him uncomfortable. I asked him to place his hand gently on her chest, and it immediately calmed her (and him), and she reached toward him. It was a perfect moment, and hopefully representative of their relationship in years to come.

Thanks for looking.

Hope everyone is managing their pre-Christmas madness!

Little Miss Squeaky Shoes

I recently shot a 1 year old girl and her 4 year old brother. Suffice to say (and as the first picture below CLEARLY demonstrates), she did not stop moving for most of the entire shoot. The picture of her walking away with her arms in the air cracked both me and her parents and brother up - as it captured her spirit perfectly. The reference to 'squeaky shoes' referred to some sandals that she wore with squeakers in them. I understand now why her parents had those sandals, because she was off and out of sight in the blink of an eye!

As for her brother, he was the one who liked to explore, as can be seen below as he peeks out from a jungle of sorts. All in all, we all had fun and survived amidst all of the chaos.

SEASIDE, Florida

I just returned from an amazing trip in Seaside, Florida, with about 15 other photographers from Canada and the United States. We shacked up in two great houses and hung out, ate, and talked shop for 2 1/2 days. It was so great to meet with people who work in the same business as I do, and who share my love of photography. Many, or even most, of these photographers gave up previous careers (in law, family therapy, personal training ;-) - to name a few), to pursue their love of photography and make it their career. As well, almost everyone there had children (not with us :-)), and there were 5 buns in various ovens who gave the gathering an even more magical energy.

Thanks for a fantastic few days Ladies. This is definitely something I would love to do on an annual basis. Finally, an extra thanks to Marla and Tara for getting up at 5a.m. to take us to the airport, when we discovered that our shuttle dude slept in!

Here we are in all our glory :-).

Happy Birthday!!

It was my daughter's 3rd birthday this week, and we hired a face-painter named Bridget who was FABULOUS. Bridget painted a dragon, a giraffe, a rainbow butterfly, a dolphin and a tiger, to name a few. Here are a couple of pictures of my kids - my little Spiderman and my little Princess.

Fresh New Life

Some friends of ours had a baby recently, and I couldn't resist dropping by to take a few shots. This little guy was less than a week old when I took this shot. The house was quite dark, but I spotted the window right away, and determined it would be perfect. Alas, the baby did his best to look super sweet, and I got the shot I was looking for.

'This is Who We Are'

Those were the words that this family said when we met up for the shoot. Normally, I give guidelines ahead of time, about what to wear. For example, I usually advise against strong patterns or stripes, and will suggest wearing solid, complimentary colours. Suffice to say, that these folks went against the grain, but they were also willing to try some alternative stuff, which resulted in some great pictures.

I haven't started proofing this session yet (probably won't for a couple of weeks :-)), but I did send the family these two teasers, which I really liked.

There is a lesson in there somewhere, however, I'm not quite ready to tell my clients to 'wear whatever you wish' :-).

Back From Holiday

Just came back from a lovely time up North, at a cottage that I bartered my services for. We had a lovely time, and I had a chance to take some pictures of my little monkeys. Oddly enough, they were without clothes much of the time - not surprising for an almost-3 and 4 1/2 year old.
Here they are...

One of my Favorite Families

I have been 'shooting' this family for a couple of years now, and have always thoroughly enjoyed myself. This shoot was done in Toronto, at the Brickworks, off the Bayview Extension. Except for the fact that Daddy-O wore jeans in 30 degree weather :-), it was a great day for shooting.
Here are some samples from the shoot...
